State Tournament Updates
February 6, 2019
At the 2019 Southern California State Tournament, Protein Modeling C Part I. Pre-Build Model will not be scored. Teams do not need to impound or bring a pre-built model. 50% of the score will be the On-Site Build, and the other 50% will be the Written Test. This takes precedence over any future National clarifications.
February 5, 2019
At the 2019 Southern California State Tournament, the Sounds of Music C Part II. Device Testing will be performed using the free audio analysis software Audacity(c). The procedure for performing this device testing can be found on the downloads page.
February 4, 2019
We are excited to announce the creation of a new Regional in Southern California - Santa Barbara Regional Tournament hosted at the University of California, Santa Barbara, on Saturday, March 9, 2019!
Below is the allocation for Regional to State for 2019:
Inland Empire: 4 B Teams, 5 C Teams
Los Angeles - Antelope Valley College: 5 B Teams, 5 C Teams
Los Angeles - Rio Hondo College: 6 B Teams, 6 C Teams
Orange County: 5 B Teams, 6 C Teams
San Diego: 10 B Teams, 8 C Teams
Santa Barbara: 1 C Team

The 2019 Southern California Science Olympiad Tournament will be hosted by Caltech and Polytechnic School again this year on April 6, 2019! We're excited to be back for the 4th year in a row!

Herpetology B/C
The SoCal State Tournament will be using the National Herpetology list and will not have a modified list.
Eye Protection for Wright Stuff C
The SoCal State Tournament will require eye protection type B for Wright Stuff C, despite the rules not requiring it.
Game On B Replaced by Codebusters B
The SoCal State Tournament will run Codebusters B instead of Game On B. After significant consultation and consideration,
the Southern California State Science Olympiad has determined to conduct the event Code Busters In lieu of the event Game On in
Division B. These discussions have included Regional Directors from So Cal Science Olympiad tournaments as well as experienced
Science Olympiad stakeholders .This event substitution will facilitate fair and timely scoring as well as event logistics and is
aligned with a variety of other state and regional Science Olympiad organizations. The rules for Codebusters B can be downloaded
here.
