[2025 Santa Barbara Science Olympiad] Communication 1 February 11
Hi Coaches and Teams,
We are excited to host the Santa Barbara Regional Tournament this year on March 8th at UCSB. Thank you for registering! Here is some information that you will need for our event.
We will have information on our website:
https://www.socalscioly.org/?tab=tournaments&page=SB
Schedule: An updated schedule of the events is attached with room locations:
https://www.socalscioly.org/downloads/SB/2025_SB_Regionals_Schedule_v3.pdf
A map will be sent out soon as well.
Things to Bring:
Last year we were able to provide glassware. This year we are unable to do so. Teams must bring their own chemistry equipment.
Teams will be required to bring their own chemistry equipment as shown:
A recommended list of items is shown below. Do note that this is an old list of materials, but bringing a similar list of materials should suffice.
Division C Equipment List
Division B Equipment List
Teams will also be required to bring their own personal protective equipment for Lab and Build events.
Aprons, Lab Coats, and other PPE may be required for each event. Please check the rules manual for each event to know the requirements: https://www.soinc.org/rules-2025
Please see below for information about eye protection: https://www.soinc.org/eye-protection
Up to 15 Official Team Members Roster Requirement:
At the Santa Barbara Regional, we will have the head coach of the team bring and submit a final official roster of participating students (15 member team and alternates) on the day of the tournament during the morning check-in time. 2025 Team Roster
The head coach needs to also submit any of the various release forms that are required. If there is a change in the composition of the team, this is simply recorded on the roster that you bring on the day of the event.
Wristbands will be provided for your team members. You will receive up to fifteen (15) wristbands, depending on the size of your team, when you check-in. Please be aware that there is no maximum or minimum number of events that a given student must compete in. Please make sure you check the National Science Olympiad guidelines at https://www.soinc.org/start-team/team-size-grade-levels on who can be on your 15 member team.
Waivers and Photography:
Waivers will be sent out soon once everything is finalized.
Check-In on the Day of the Tournament:
Head Coach Check-in will be in HSSB 1237. Please note that this is a different room than last year.
The registration materials we're expecting are:
- Final team roster with principal signature (1 per team)
- Release form for each participating student (1 per student)
Once the head coach has turned in these required forms, they will receive up to 15 participant wristbands for the official members of the team (blue for Div B, yellow for Div C). Please make sure to print out enough copies of the map and schedule for the team's use as there will be a limited number of maps and schedules available on the day of the event.
Team Numbers:
Team numbers are now posted on 2025 Santa Barbara Science Olympiad Team Numbers. Please check your team number and make sure to bring it with you on the day of the tournament.
Build Events:
As they are scheduled, there will be no self schedule for the events. As all builds will occur during one time block, there will be no impound for any events. If students intend to perform in multiple build events, and the new schedule causes any issues, please email us about events conflicts. We will make sure that your student can compete in multiple events during the timeblock or an adjacent timeblock.
Helicopters room dimensions:
The flight room will be the same as last year. The total room dimensions are 85 feet by 69 feet. However, as other events will be run in the same room, the flight area will effectively be a square, 69 by 69 ft. The height has not been measured, but was estimated to be 40-60 ft by the university staff.
Parking:
Please let us know if you plan to bring a bus, so we can get approval for parking. We will provide parking for cars at a nearby parking lot.
Homebase:
Schools will be allowed to set up a home base on the campus lawn or around HSSB. This will be marked on the map. This will be outside. Please bring your own chairs, blankets, and whatever else is needed to have a comfortable home base.
