Photos and Feedback Form

We are always looking for ways to improve the Science Olympiad program. Please take 5-10 minutes to fill out this anonymous feedback form to help us improve! Feel free to share this with members of your Science Olympiad community, including parents and competitors. Once you complete the feedback form, you will be able to access the official photography from the tournament, done by Emily Miaou and Kelly Yan.

Please let your graduating seniors know that there has never been a more exciting time to volunteer for Science Olympiad. If they would like to give back to their program, please have them reach out to me for more details!

Final Scoreboards:

The Div B and Div C scoreboards are now posted on Duosmium. The top 7 schools from each division are invited to represent Los Angeles from the LA Regional Tournament at Rio Hondo College at the SoCal State Tournament on April 6 at Caltech, Pasadena. There were minor changes to Disease Detectives B, Forensics C, and Roller Coaster B, but no major changes that affected the top 6 in each event or schools that were invited to the State Tournament.

Communique 4

The Div B and Div C preliminary scoreboards are now released on Duosmium. Any scoring inquiries should be emailed to Ryan Wong by the head coach of record by 5:00pm Monday March 4. As a reminder, scoring inquiries are only for clerical errors on the scoreboard (e.g. teams competed but received a no show score).

Communique 3

Please carefully read through the important information below regarding the tournament next weekend. There may be tasks to complete (see first item from the top and last 3 items at the bottom). As a quick reminder, ESUS closes on Wednesday, 2/28 at 5:00pm.

[Urgent] Parent Volunteer Assignments
Each team (not school) must provide an adult volunteer who will help assist our Event Supervisors for two hours total. (The volunteer cannot be a competitor on the team and must be an adult, usually a parent or coach). The assignments are posted under Tournament Info at this link and are also attached to this email. These adult volunteers will not require knowledge of the events and will be helping with tasks like timing, letting teams in, etc.. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

For all volunteers, make sure they complete the volunteer training program required by National Science Olympiad before tournament day

Pre-Final Schedule and Room Assignments
Room assignments for events for both divisions are now posted in the downloads section.

Check-In
When coaches arrive, they should submit an envelope with the following:

  • Team Roster with the official team of 15 participants from the school, signed by the principal.
  • Release Forms for everyone affiliated with the team who will be on campus that day.
Once the head coach has turned in these required forms, they will receive up to 15 participant wristbands for the official memb ers of the team. Please make sure to print out enough copies of the map and schedule for the team's use as there will be a limited number of maps and schedules available on the day of the event.

Parking
Parking is available ONLY in lots A, J, L and in the Terrace Parking Lots 1-6 and is free. No parking passes are required.

Food
Rio Cafe will be open for business on Saturday. They are located below the Student Services building (SS on the map).

Arbitrations
your team needs to file an appeal, the head coach must submit an online appeal form. The appeal form has been emails to the head coach in Communique 3.

Minor Procedural Issues Contact number:
On the day of the event, if there are quick procedural issues, Head Coaches can call (626) 268-1661. Please make this option a useful one and only use this number judiciously to make sure it helps facilitate the process and not negatively impact it. Quick procedural issues include: Event Supervisor is missing for an event; Event Supervisor is checking for student ID to let them in, Event Supervisors not allowing certain items that should be allowed, etc. In general, call this number to get something fixed quickly (not to appeal). Resolving procedural issues is not meant to replace the appeal process that's currently in place.

Photography
Do not photograph or take videos of another team's device without their permission.

Awards Ceremony
The Awards Ceremony for both Divisions will take place in the Gym starting at 5:30PM.

Preliminary Scoreboard
The preliminary scoreboard for the tournament will be posted on Duosmium after the awards ceremony. Teams will have until 5:00PM Monday, March 4 to submit any scoring inquiries. As a reminder, scoring inquiries must be submitted by the head coach and are only meant for any clerical issues on the scoreboard (e.g. a team that participated in an event was marked as no-show).

Remind
This year we will be experimenting with using Remind to share updates to teams via text message on the day of the tournament. Remind will not replace the main method of communication to all teams, which is still email, but will act as a second way through which teams can receive urgent or important updates on tournament day. Coaches, please feel free to share the invitation link with the leaders in your Science Olympiad community.

Click here to join OR text @la-reg-rhc to the number 81010. Disclaimer: Standard text messaging rates may apply.

Team Names
Teams may provide us with a custom team name to be displayed on the scoreboard during the awards ceremony. This is completely optional. For schools with multiple teams, teams will be designated as Team 1, 2, etc. based on team number order as has been done in previous years. The form to submit this has been emailed to the head coaches in Communique 3 and it must be filled out before 5:00pm Wednesday 2/28 if you wish to have a custom team name.

Team Check In

Head Coach Check-in is from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM on Mar 02, 2024, under the bridge between the Science and Administration Buildings (where the red cross is on the map). The head coach of the team should go to check in and turn in the following material, which can be found below in the downloads section:

  1. Final team roster with the participants' names and grade levels
  2. Release form for all participants, non-participating students, guests of the school
If an event requires impound, the device must be impounded during the time stated in the schedule. Teams will not need wristbands to impound their devices since the impound period is the same as the period when the head coach checks in and receives wristbands. However, per the rules, all devices must still be impounded by one or more of the 15 official team members. Parents or other non-participants may not impound devices for their team, but they may accompany the team members to help transport or carry things.

Flight B/C Venue Dimensions

Flight B/C will take place in the gym. The dimensions of the gym are 34m x 37m x 14m (14m height).
